Queen’s Dyke Nature Reserve!
This is in honour of Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee
.
Queen Elizabeth II is the first British Monarch to celebrate 70 years of service.
Opening at 10:00 until 17:00, we are offering a FREE fun-filled open day for all of the family!
Events include fossil hunting, pond dipping, nature trail, bird watching, snake handling, owl pellet dissection, quizzes etc.
We are also hosting the following SPECIAL EVENTS: (those marked * require booking – see details below)
* Walk with the Warden – 07:00 – 10:00
Nature reserve warden Philip Parker will take you on a guided tour of the reserve. Giving you a real insight into the running of the reserve and all of the wonderful species and habitats Kings Dyke is home to.
* Brickworks Tours – 10:00 (start 10:30) & 14:00 (start 14:30). Meet at Kings Dyke Brickworks
Come along on these special and informative guided tours of the great British brick industry.
A guided walk through the entire brick making process!
A maximum of 10 places per tour.
Over 18’s only. Walking boots essential. Face mask’s provided by Forterra must be worn at all times.
Face painting! – 13:00 – 15:00
Flutterby Face Painting will be joining us to help turn your budding wildlife enthusiasts into marvellous creatures of nature!
Bug Hunting – 14:00 – 16:00
Dr Pete Kirby and Sarah Lambert run the ever popular search for invertebrates! Pete and Sarah’s contagious enthusiasm will have you excited about our brilliant bugs! What creepy crawlies will be discovered?
Moth Trapping – 22:00 until late (arrive/depart any time)
Phil Parker and Karl Charters will have the moth traps running! A chance to visit the reserve when daylight has depleted. Magical moths and other nocturnal wildlife will provide an exciting evening of discovery.
